Top 5 road trip movies

If we can't go on a road trip, we like to indulge in the movie version of one. Here are our top five movies featuring a road trip...

1. Thelma and Louise (1991)

Directed by Ridley Scott, Thelma and Louise is the story of a road trip on the run from the law. Geena Davies and Susan Sarandon play buddies who ditch their dull lives for the weekend, with fatal consequences. Filmed in California, Utah and Colorado, the iconic final scene takes place in Dead Horse Point State Park

2. The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994)

Starring Guy Pearce, Hugo Weaving and Terence Stamp, this iconic Australian film finds three drag queens journeying across Australia's brutal outback. Featuring some unforgettable shots of glittering showgirls speeding through the red dust of the desert. Uplifting and challenging at the same time, it's a road trip we'd love to stow away on.

3. Sideways (2004)

Paul Giamatti and Thomas Hayden Church play friends on a stag party road trip to Santa Barbra Wine County. Beautiful scenery, vineyards and a great performance from Killing Eve's Sandra Oh make this a must-see movie.

4. Little Miss Sunshine (2006)

Toni Collette plays an overworked mother of two who, along takes her family on a road trip from Albuquerque to California in order that her daughter can appear at the beauty pageant. Family tension comes along for the ride on this uplifting journey.

5. Rain Man (1988)

Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman play brothers reunited after the death of their father. On a road trip across America the pair are forced to examine some home truths about their upbringing.
