Top 5 woodland movie moments

Top 5 woodland movie moments

If we can’t get to the forest, we like to see them on the big (or, more likely our small) screen. These are top 5 films that showcase the magic and mystery of the woods…

1. The River Wild (1994)

Meryl Streep and Kevin Bacon ride white water rapids in this adventure thriller that features stunning forest locations in Montana and Oregon.

2. Wild (2014)

This adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s autobiography stays faithful to the book’s honesty about the brutality of the outdoors. Filmed along the Pacific Coast Highway, with Reese Witherspoon as the journeying Cheryl, the movie’s real star is the breath taking scenery.

3. The Blair Witch Project (1999)

The woods can be scary a place! Is there a more creepy use of the woods as a menacing character in itself than in this ground breaking horror film? The film was made in Seneca Creek State Park, Maryland.

4. The Great Outdoors (1988)

Dan Akyroyd and John Candy in the woods – what more do you want? This classic slapstick comedy gave us all the itch for a woodland retreat, even if it involved a vengeful bald bear!

5. The Revenant (2015)

Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s epic movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Hugh Glass on a journey through the brutal wilderness. The forest vistas are created by the use of several locations in three countries: Canada, USA and Argentina.
